Lead Generation
What is demand generation, and how is it different from lead generation?
Lead generation captures demand that already exists. Demand generation creates it — building awareness and intent among buyers who are not yet searching. Most businesses need both, and the common failure is running only capture, then concluding the market is small.
The distinction matters for measurement. Capture converts quickly and attributes cleanly. Creation works over a longer horizon and shows up as branded search, direct traffic and shorter sales cycles rather than as a tracked click.
Judging demand generation on last-click attribution will always make it look like a waste, which is why the measurement model has to be agreed before the programme starts rather than after.
