Traditional Media, Does It Still Work

Traditional Media, Does It Still Work

In order to run a successful business, you should understand your place in the market. Once you identify where you belong, the customers that you are attracting and what your competitors are offering, you can gauge your business model and adjust according to the findings.

The number one rule is to adapt, this includes keeping up with the trends, time and technology.

Times change. Currently, any information that we need can be easily found online. More so, we have social media sites that put our products and services in front of potential customers. However, traditional media still has an important role to play in improving traffic to your website.

What is Traditional Media?

This is the first type of advertisement that business owners think about when considering marketing. Types of traditional media include radio ads, TV ads and Print ads and are placed in front of their target audience along with other interests and products the consumer might have. Other forms of traditional marketing are door-to-door, billboard advertisement, direct mail and cold calling.

These different forms of traditional media still have their own benefits. One benefit that you get is, your product or service is placed right in front of your target audience. A billboard or door-to-door plan reaches the masses and unearths new market. Direct ads remind users that you still exist and are waiting for their return.

Traditional ads are still being used but how effective are they?

Social Media vs. Traditional Media

The good thing about social media is it's highly interactive. Users can come and go as they like, follow the companies closely and uncover who the company is as a brand. These two types of media engage the user differently but one thing is clear, social media uses plenty of traditional media for their content.

When browsing social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, you will come across one or two picture ads. This is the same strategy used by print media, the only difference is where people get their information.

This leads to another question, how do we know that traditional media is still effective?

Traditional media is still effective and as a business owner, you should take the time to understand the form of media that works for your target audience and the services and products that you offer.

Traditional media, however, is diminishing.  This may seem like a bold statement but it’s true.

Why?

For example, TV owners are now watching their favorite shows online; car owners are listening to music on the portable devices; magazines and newspapers are found on the internet as well.

Traditional media will never fully end, it will develop into new platforms. Your marketing company should consider the lifespan of traditional media and use it with social media strategies for a successful marketing plan.
